In this instance I am using an IP Office 5402 digital set on [...]]]> I’m not a fan of paging, for some reason I always have issues when integrating a new telephone system with existing paging equipment. UPAM‘s are a pain, and I swear they are haunted . So I came up with this.

In this instance I am using an IP Office 5402 digital set on an IP Office 412 System Server at firmware revision 5.0(26).

For this project you will need a T5 torx driver, side cutters of a crimper, an RCA audio cable and x2 crimp-on wire connectors.

1. Using a T5 tork driver, remove the 4 screws from the bottom of the phone.
2. seperate the bottom of the phone from the top and lay to the side, the interface jack is mounted in the bottom so be careful not to put too much pressure on the cable pair as you lay it to the side.
3. Clip the red & black wires that go to the speaker.
4. Find an open spot by the interface jack and drill a 3/16 hole.
5. Cut off the end of the RCA audio cable, feed the cut end through the 3/16 hole.
5. Strip the end of the RCA audio cable, strip the center wire (red), twist the outside wire and then twist the inside wire.
6. Strip the ends of the speaker wire on both side.

At this point you should have both side of the wire that comes from the speaker stripped, a total of 4 wires, and the RCA audio cable stripped.

7. Take the 2 black wires from the speaker and the outside wire from the RCA audio cable and twist together, place the crimp-on connector on the the twisted wires and crimp.
8. Take the 2 red wires from the speaker and the inside wire from the RCA audio cable and twist together, place the crimp-on connector on the the twisted wires and crimp.
9. Connect the phone, via the interface jack, to the phone system. Connect the RCA audio cable to the paging system input (amp interface).

The idea here is that you make an intercom (dial direct) call to the extension we just modified and the audio comes out both the speaker on the phone and throught the RCA audio cable to the amp interface.

With the IP Office you use a ‘Short Code’ to page. Because we are not using a true paging interface we have to do it a little differenctly. The short code will look something like this…

The telephone number 2211 is actually a hunt group with only one member, extension 2124, which is the phone we just modified and connected to both the phone system adn the paging interface. The reason I used a hunt group is so that you can add more than one modified set to make a quasi multi-zone paging system by adding more phones connected to more amps.

The Motorola Xoom WiFi (US) now has 2 flavors of ICS, if you wanna root & flash.  Team Rogue released an unoffical CynaGenMod 9 yesterday and Team Eos (the Tiamat Rom team) released their version on December 19th.

The Team EOS build is now in its 33rd revision, I’ve been running it since build 20, and I have to say it is awesome.  Fast, stable, totally trouble free.  I haven’t run the Team Rogue release yet, but I’ll let you know something tomorrow.
